Inasmuch as most of the classic Rockwall photos of Mr. Sanders' 1949 excavations have recently vanished from the net, we will be featuring a gallery with them on the Quivira Project section. We will also have photos of the mortis and tenon feature which was discovered at Rockwall along with a beveled stone which was found during one of the earlier excavations.
For now I want to draw your attention to some photos I took of some fragments of stone and mortar from Rockwall. These were broken from the much larger stones and were collected when John and Dee took me out to the site of the 99-2000 excavation. Most of the blocks still left on the surface after The Rockwall Foundation reburied the site are damaged and completely out of original context. At one point in the excavation the individual blocks had been numbered and placed in a graph of the order in which they were found. This piece shows what seem to be artificial marks on the stone and debunkers will likely dismiss these as recent grafitti or tool marks from the excavation machines. I can only say that this is how the stone was when I found it in the field and I have not altered it in any way. This photo is in the geological oddities gallery with a few others and it occurred to me that in the absence of labeling viewers had no clue as to what they were looking at. I will proceed to remedy that situation now.

The light gray in this photo is the mortar material which joins several courses of stone blocks throughout the walls at virturally all locations thus far excavated. Tan is the color of the outer surfaces of the unusual metamorphic stone that makes up the blocks themselves. This right angled mark is fairly deep (over 1 inch) and may be an accident of nature. Still, in light of the previous photos and the artificiality claim, it is worth noting.

The "N" symbol repeats along with faint triangles.
